grilled cheese

My friend Amanda wrote recently, and encouraged me to enter this contest.  I've never been one for the grilled cheese, generally speaking, but of course decided I had nothing to lose and only a good snack to gain.

Last year, The {amazing & talented} Ashely Rodriguez won last year (see video here)... a high bar to live up to.

In my state of delirium on a Sunday afternoon concocting this and entering online, I didn't give the sandwich a proper name.... but I at least have a photo.

Inside this crusty baguette is a little Brie, some Bucherondin (a nice chevre), a drizzle of honey, a few walnuts, and sprinkle of lavender, grey sea salt and some fresh cracked pepper.

Busy. Messy. Kind of awesome.

home sweet home

hello, life-one-month-later.
it's been busy.  and really awesome.

I just got home [after taking part in a fun, but beast of a shoot] to find some "welcome home!" goodies from HOPE on the kitchen table.  It's this kind of thoughtfulness that makes me want to wear some sort of ridiculous t-shirt that says "my boyfriend is cuter than your boyfriend."

So I wilted some greens and poached that blue-ish egg.

It was glorious.  And I am grateful.

last days of cold

As you endure any final days of chilly, I highly recommend this lunch :: wilted greens and roasted cauliflower & chevre.

{assuming you may have been to the market lately...}

// Warm up your winter greens you already wilted, with some of the cauliflower you've already roasted. Toast some stale bread you otherwise would have pitched, grab a hunk of good cheese, dress up your plate with a drizzle of olive oil, and a sprinkle of good salt, freshly cracked pepper and any kind of nut.

nicely noted

I was pleasantly surprised the other weekend with a request from my sweet neighbor, Perry, who has just launched her new business :: Nicely Noted.  Do check it out.  If you're a card/type/paper snob, who also refuses to let the art of the hand written note slip away, Nicely Noted is be you new best friend.  Because not only do you indulge as the recipient of a small monthly package, but you can so conveniently then spread the love to the ones you love.... you can read about it here, and decide for yourself.  :)

girly

Last Tuesday evening, I had some dear friends over - Crystal [weekend video delights GALORE, general loveliness and stock full of inspiration in everything.] & Erin [prepare for pee-in-your pants wit and make-you-feel-like-you-don't-talk-good prose].

And this is what we gnawed on.

Getting home in the afternoon with the daunting notion of "gahh what do I serve and how am I going to conquer the store at 5:30pm??"  Then I remembered that I had a brain, a refrigerator full of cooked vegetables and salsa-verde-type-vegetable-scrap-garlicky-spread goodness... and could improvise [with a little elbow grease, of course].   So I made some crackers, a la Ad Hoc at Home, and a pizza crust, a la Fleichmann's recipe on the back [sans sugar].  I had already made a spinach and walnut pesto, and had capers and goats cheese on hand :: voila!  A boozy evening of great conversation, buckets of laughs, and lots of white flour + green things.
